Review:
Finally, a full color version of the Stockholm '92 pro-shot video!
Before the DVD menu appears a thirty second video with footage that looks like something out of a Vietnam War flick -- complete with palm trees, helicopters, and fiery explosions -- appears on the screen. The words "Apocalypse Sound" and "Home Entertainment" appear over the picture during the last fifteen seconds of the start-up video.
During portions of "Zoo Station" there appear to be two layers of video on top of each other -- the top (transparent) layer is the footage shown on the video screens. The bottom layer is the concert footage. As Bono grabs the remote control to flip through the channels of Zoo Television, a single layer of video emerges. The second layer reappears for most of "Even Better Than the Real Thing" and "Mysterious Ways". Then, as Bono speaks to MTV Europe contest winner John before "One", a single layer of footage emerges. From this point forward there is some professional mixing of footage, but nothing like the overlays from the first part of the video...that is, until a minute or so into "Desire", when the overlay returns -- but only for that song.
The video features excellent video quality and clarity. It's not quite on the same level as more recent pro-shot videos converted directly from the master, but it is very solid nonetheless. Audio is near flawless as well.
The "Bonus Feature" is very nice pro-shot footage from the June 19, 1992 concert in Birmingham, England. This includes a brief speech by Bono about the Sellafield nuclear power plant and the protest that had been planned for the next day.
